Over 50 Bombardier employees in North Bay will have to wait to see if massive layoffs announced yesterday will impact the local scene.

Over 50 Bombardier employees in North Bay will have to wait to see if massive layoffs announced yesterday will impact the local scene.

Director of Operations Isabelle Rondeau told BayToday the change will result in the layoff of about 1,800 “indirect” functions such as finance and human resources, but that it is "much, much too early" to say what the impact on North Bay will be.

"The restructuring will take place over the remainder of the year," she added.

The local plant handles  Canadair CL 415 water bombers.

The layoffs represent 4.8 per cent of the aerospace division's global workforce of more than 37,000.

Bombardier is the world’s only manufacturer of both planes and trains.

Bombardier is headquartered in Montreal.
