You're driving along McIntyre street minding your own business when suddenly BAM! You've just been T-boned on the most dangerous street in North Bay.

Traffic accidents are a weekly occurrence in the city. So far this year there have been close to a hundred collisions at city intersections.

Baytoday decided to look at all the numbers since 2011 and identify the worst intersections within North Bay Police jurisdiction. These do not include intersections along the bypass, as they fall under the supervision of the Ontario Provincial Police.

Number 5 – Lakeshore and Marshall Ave (26 accidents)

Keep in mind this intersection has been free of collisions so far this year. Its worst year was in 2011 with twelve collisions on record. This is a very busy intersection with a Wendy’s and Tim Horton drive thru located nearby and many motorist attempting left hand turns onto Marshall Avenue.

Number 4 – Cassells and McIntyre Street West (27 accidents)

With McIntyre being a one way street, speed is often attributed as the cause of accidents. This particular intersection sees a lot of traffic turning both left and right onto Cassells.

Number 3 – Algonquin and Maplewood (27 accidents)

This is a very busy (uneven) intersection adjacent Hillcrest Ave. Those wishing to turn left onto Algonquin from either street usually need to act fast during rush hour traffic. There is an average of seven accidents per year at that intersection.

Number 2 – Algonquin and Front Street (30 accidents)

This has been the most active intersection for Police so far this year, with ten collisions reported already at this intersection.

Number 1 – Fisher Street and McIntyre Street East (31 accidents)

This intersection has seen a rise in accidents over the years, with nine thus far in 2014. Similar to the intersection on Cassells, Fisher has a high volume of traffic that sees a lot of motorists merging onto McIntyre.

North Bay Police say most accidents occur between the hours of 7a.m. - 9a.m. and 4p.m. - 6p.m.

Other notable intersections…

Champlain and McKeown: 23 collisions

John Street and McIntyre East: 19 collisions

Gertrude Street and Lakeshore Drive: 19 collisions

Algonquin Avenue and Main Street: 13 collisions
