Plenty happening in Mattawa this weekend with Voyageur Days as it kicks off its 17th edition today. It's the 7th straight year being listed as one of the top 100 festivals in Ontario.
"It's going to be a phenomenal weekend," Chairman Jacques Begin told BayToday.
"Today (Thursday) we key in on our youth and children's events happening on Mattawa Island."
Of note is the Lion's Brian Bangs Memorial Fishing Tournament named after a long-time Lion's member.
"We get all kinds of kids," enthused Begin. "We've had them from eight months old."

Tonight is a concert that re-unites a lot of local bands that used to play at dances and weddings in Mattawa.
"Wristbands are going out the door like crazy," said Begin. "This is going to be a very successful event."
Most events today are free, including the evening concert.
Wristbands are $40.00 for the concert line-up and kids 10 and under are free.
They are available at the Mattawa & North Bay Scotiabanks & Caisse Populaire and at the Mattawa Information Centre
