Local man charged after 2 motorcyclists killed

A North Bay man has been charged by police in connection with a traffic accident that claimed two lives.

On June 7, officers from the Warren OPP Detachment rushed to a collision on Highway 17, within the Municipality of Markstay-Warren involving two passenger vehicles and one motorcycle.

The investigation revealed that an eastbound car had crossed the centre line, striking a westbound sports utility vehicle.

The eastbound car continued across the westbound lane and struck a westbound motorcycle head-on. 

Both the passenger and driver of the motorcycle were pronounced dead at the scene.

As a result of the investigation, John Hemmingway, 59, from North Bay has been charged with Careless Driving of a Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. 

He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on July 28, in Sudbury.
