Two separate, but related crashes sent five people to hospital yesterday afternoon.

At approximately 4:40 the North Bay OPP responded to a two vehicle collision on Highway 17 near the intersection of Jocko Point Road.

OPP investigators have determined that a Nissan SUV was traveling westbound on Highway 17 when a Dodge pick-up truck turned left in front of the Nissan.  The SUV collided with the pick-up.

The three occupants of the Nissan and the lone occupant of the Dodge were rushed to hospital by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation is continuing and charges are pending

Meanwhile, a West Nipissing volunteer firefighter, driving his personal motorcycle, was heading to the scene, when he was also involved in a collision.   He was also taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

This collision is still under investigation.

OPP are asking motorists to exercise caution and reduce their speed when approaching the scene of a collision for their own safety and that of emergency workers.
