Man charged with tampering with a dam

The Almaguin Highlands OPP is investigating a repeated mischief to the South River Dam located at Mill Street in South River.

The Almaguin Highlands OPP is investigating a repeated mischief to the South River Dam located at Mill Street in South River.

The first report the OPP received was on Friday June 13, that an unknown person had removed logs from the dam in order to alter the water flow over the dam. 

Subsequent complaints were made to the OPP, again that logs were removed from the dam in South River.

On Sunday July 20,  OPP arrested and charged Robert Whitehead, 57 of South River, with Mischief, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada. 

Whitehead was also charged with several counts of Alter, Improve or Repair Dam without Minister’s Approval and Obstruct Inspector or Engineer, contrary to the Lakes and River Improvement Act.

Whitehead was released from police custody and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sundridge on Thursday, August 14.
