A couple of  Agricultural Opportunities Forums this week  focused on new market opportunities for local farmers as a result of the Canada-Korea free-trade agreement recently announced with South Korea.

Guest speaker for both of these events was Barry Devolin, MP Haliburton – Kawartha Lakes- Brock,   Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons and Co-Chair of the Canada-Korea Friendship group.

“Both forums were well attended and generated a great deal of enthusiasm” said MP Jay Aspin. “This initiative is about alerting our agricultural communities to the opportunities on the horizon. The free-trade agreement that we signed with Korea will place us on the same playing  field as the United States and European Union in the Asian market. This provides a huge export opportunity that our farmers need to be aware of, especially those in the dairy industry.”

The forums were held in Powassan and Temiskaming Shores.

“These were two of five forums I will host this summer,” said Aspin.

In addition to the Agriculture Opportunities Forums, Aspin will host a Firearms Forum and an Infrastructure Forum with Public Safety Minister, the Honourable Steven Blaney and Peter Braid MP Kitchener, the Parliamentary Secretary for Infrastructure.
