Police warn of new phone scam

It works this way. Callers claim to be from Canadian Tire. Those targeted are told they won a trip and are asked to provide a credit card number in order to claim their prize. This promotion is fraudulent.

Callers claim to be from Canadian Tire. Those targeted are told they won a trip and are asked to provide a credit card number in order to claim their prize.

This promotion is fraudulent.

You are advised to not provide credit card numbers over the phone to people who claim you have won a prize.

If you receive such a call, simply hang up. If you have call display, report the scam and the telephone number to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

Examples include advance fee fraud, job scams, lottery scams, emergency scams, false charities, and identity crime.
