Young professional wants youth voices heard by provincial candidates

Following the North Bay and District Chamber of Commerce "Meet the Candidates" event last Wednesday, Josh Pride felt disappointed and discouraged.

Pride, a recent university graduate, has returned home to the Bay after spending five years in Ottawa, with the hope of starting up his career here in his hometown.

Pride faces greater challenges in landing a great entry-level position by staying in the Bay then if he had stayed in a larger area.

Facing the challenge, Pride wanted to hear from the candidates, if successful and win the election, what plans they have for keeping young professionals in the area.

"My question to the candidates was silenced on debate night by the moderator. Amongst the talk of jobs in the “Ring of Fire,” my question concerned the place of young professionals in Nipissing; those pursuing a university education," he told BayToday following the event.

Pride says he asked the question so youth completing their university education are enlightened about each party's plan to bring young professionals home to contribute to this community.

Pride, not being happy just to sit back and complain, has organized a Youth Round Table night.

All the candidates have been invited to sit down and talk with young professionals about the challenges they face and what plans they have to develop employment and quality of life so young professionals have the choice to stay in the area.

The event will take place June 9th at 6:30pm at the North Bay Public Library.

Pride encourages all young professionals to come out and have their voices heard.
