Street closures tomorrow for Armed Forces Appreciation Day

The Canadian Armed Forces Appreciation Day, organized by 22 Wing North Bay, will take place on Wednesday.

The Canadian Armed Forces Appreciation Day, organized by 22 Wing North Bay, will take place on Wednesday. To ensure a safe environment for all participants during the festivities, the North Bay Police will provide a visible police presence in marked units, on bicycles and on foot throughout the day.

Parade begins at 11 am

Approximately 150 military personnel will march from City Hall to the Kiwanis band shell on Memorial Drive. The parade route will start at City Hall at Sherbrooke Street to Main Street East, right on Main to Fraser Street, left on Fraser to Oak Street, Oak to the pedestrian underpass and right on Memorial Drive to the front of the Bandshell at the waterfront. Street Closures

8 a.m. – Memorial Drive, between Oak Street West and Regina Street, closes

10:30 a.m. – Sherbrooke Street, between Worthington Street and McIntyre Street, closes

Approximately 11:15 a.m. – Sherbrooke Street reopens

3 p.m. – Memorial Drive reopens to the public

School Participation

Approximately 25 area schools, representing 2000 students, will participate. Most will be bussed to Oak Street. Approximately 650 students from École Secondaire Catholique Algonquin and St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Catholic Secondary School will be walking to the waterfront from their respective schools.

Public Participation

This free event is open the public. Due to road closures, North Bay Police will be directing motorists to park at one of the following locations: the old UNIROC parking lot; Amelia Ball Field; or Lee Park.

Schedule of Events

11 a.m. – Parade begins.

11:30 a.m. – Parade arrives at waterfront.

11:40 a.m. – Pipes and drums show

11:46 a.m. – National anthem

11:50 a.m. – Speeches

12:20 p.m. – CF-18 demonstration begins.

12:50 p.m. – CF-18 demonstration ends.
