“Into the Vault”: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Canadian Forces Museum of Aerospace Defence’s Artifact and Archive Collection
In participation with the International Council of Museums’ annual ‘International Museums Day’ and the Ontario Museums Association ‘May is Museum Month’ initiatives, the Canadian Forces Museum of Aerospace Defence (CFMAD) at 22 Wing/CFB North Bay will be hosting two special weekends, inviting the community to explore some hidden aspects of the museum.
The first event, “Into the Vault”, invites the public to view CFMAD’s collections storage and work area, in addition to exploring the museum’s gallery space.
The museum is home to roughly 10,000 artifacts, most of which are not on display. Curatorial staff and volunteers will teach visitors about the behind-the-scenes work of collecting, cataloguing, preserving and researching the many historical objects that come into the museum’s care.
This special opening will be on Saturday May 10, from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. “Into the Vault” is free of charge but donations are always greatly appreciated.
