North Bay’s first ever Polar Plunge, taking place on Saturday, March 29th, 1-2 p.m. at the North Bay Waterfront (municipal boat launch), is shaping up to be a great event.

As of March 19th, over 100 participants had registered to take the plunge either as a member of one of over 20 Teams or as an individual.

The current goal is to raise $25,000, with all the proceeds going towards the Special Olympics Ontario 2015 Winter Games taking place in North Bay next January 29th to February 1st.

New participants have until midnight on March 25th to register by simply going to www.polarplunge.ca and clicking on North Bay.

For those not up to the challenge of jumping in the lake, they are encouraged to also go online to sponsor an individual or team or make a direct donation.

The minimum registration fee is $100 (or in equivalent funds raised) to participate in the Plunge.

For students (13-17) registration is $75 (or in equivalent funds raised).

Each participant will receive a goodie bag and awards will also be given out for the Most Outrageous Costume, Best Group Participation and Top Fundraiser.

The 2015 Games are being hosted by the North Bay Police Service, with the support and participation of numerous individuals, organizations and agencies throughout the community and beyond.

The Service is working in partnership with Special Olympics Ontario to organize and run the Games.
