Canadore students want to create a new way of going to school

Thursday, March 13, 2014   by: Kate Adams

On March 5th Canadore students Shaun Ryken, Ty Gonsalves and Jordon Kocsis banded together to create a movement to bring awareness to the hardships students deal with in outside the classroom and put an end to bullying on campus.

“This is a huge issue in the community today,” movement organizer Shaun Ryken tells BayToday.

“We created 6000 recycled custom sticky notes with positive messages to be passed around to the students of the college and university and make someone’s day.”

“We ended up passing over 4114 sticky notes around campus and brought a huge change to the campus.”

“It took 3 students to move 4000 people, Imagine what it could do if more people got involved in this movement,” he asks.

Ryken says they need all schools to see what they have done then get involved in the movement.

“Help us put an end to bullying on your campus and create a new way of going to school.”

Contact Shaun at ShaunRyken@Gmail.com to become part of the movement or join the facebook page www.facebook.com/HashtagPassItOn .

Ryken says they want to move it towards other schools in fact they will be talking with the Toronto District School Board after March break and Pass It On in their schools.

"Every year we want to boost this movement in our school because it brought a lot of people together and encouraged a lot of students to help stop bullying."

"Durham College is contacting me about doing it at their schools and another school in the Kawartha Pine Ridge School Board wants to take part as well," Ryken tells BayToday.

"I will be updating everyone on the movement on the facebook page for now and gathering a team to help me out."
