MVC leads to possession charges

During the week of February 14th to February 20th, the West Nipissing Police Service logged 189 calls for service. 

Among those were 35 9-1-1 calls, 29 Police Assistance calls, 7 Alarms, 5 Drug Offences, 5 Thefts, 3 Assaults, 3 Noise Complaints, 2 Threats and 1 Domestic Dispute.

On February 15th, at approx. 04:50 the West Nipissing Police Service were contacted by an employee of a restaurant located on Front St advising that there is an intoxicated male inside the store. 

The employee told police that this male has been there since midnight and is now harassing the customers. 

Officers attended and observed the suspect standing outside the bathroom door staring at the wall and had no shoes on. 

The officers also smelled a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. 

The 29 year old male was arrested and transported back to police headquarters were he was lodged in the cells. 

The suspect was later released and was issued a Provincial Offences Notice under the Liquor License Act for Being Intoxicated in a Public Place.

On February 15th, the West Nipissing Police Service received a call for assistance at a residence in Verner. 

Upon arrival officers were advised that a neighbor had attended their residence where an argument erupted. 

During this argument, the neighbor allegedly threatened their lives. 

The accused male was arrested on scene and was transported back to police headquarters and lodged in a cell. 

The 49 year old accused now faces charges of 2 counts of Threatening and 2 counts of Criminal Harassment. 

He was kept in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

On February 16th, officers were dispatched to a residence located on St. Amour St in Verner regarding an unwanted person. 

The complainant told police that she got into an argument with another female where she got slapped and kicked by the accused. 

Police then attempted to arrest the female which is when she resisted. 

Officers eventually took control of the female and brought her back to the police station where she was charged with Assault, Mischief, Resist Arrest and one count of Breach of a Court Order. 

She was kept for a Bail hearing.

On February 18th, officers were dispatched to a Motor Vehicle collision on Levert Dr in Sturgeon Falls. 

While on scene police were advised that the other involved vehicle had left the scene. 

Officers were given the plate number of this vehicle and later attended his residence also located on Levert Dr.

Upon arriving at the residence, police observed a plastic pail full of, what appeared to be, marijuana. 

A male was spoken to and admitted that it was his drugs. 

The 48 year old male was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and brought back to police headquarters. 

A drug warrant was later obtained to search the residence resulting in seizure of approx. 300 grams of marijuana.  

The accused was subsequently charged with 2 counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance. 

He was later released on a Promise To Appear.
