Arson charges laid in Phelps Township fire

Members of the North Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a suspicious fire on December 9, 2013 at approximately 4:46 p.m., at a residence in Phelps Township.

The Phelps Fire Department attended the scene and had extinguished the fire. 

The residence sustained severe smoke damage. 

The fire was contained to the kitchen of the residence.

As a result of an investigation by the North Bay Detachment, North East Region Support Team, North Bay Forensic Identification Section and the office of the Fire Marshall, occupants of the residence, Francis Guitard, age 35, Pierre Cousineau, age 57, and Diane Guitard, age 53 have all been charged with the following offences:
 

  •          Arson Damage to Property section 434 of the Criminal Code of Canada
  •          Arson-Fraudulent purposes section 435(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada

There were no injuries as a result of the fire.
