Sturgeon Falls man charged for Impaired driving

During the week of December 13 -19th the West Nipissing Police Service logged 168 calls for service. Among those were 46 9-1-1 calls, 25 Police Assistance calls, 6 Alarms, 4 Thefts, 2 Domestic Disputes, 2 Noise Complaints and 1 Impaired.

On Dec. 14th, the West Nipissing Police Service received a call regarding a vehicle in the ditch in area of Quesnel Road.

Upon arrival, the officer was approached by a 22 year old male stating that he was the driver of driving the vehicle.

The officer also noticed that boats and two personal water crafts were also damaged. The accused admitted to taking a friend’s vehicle, driving at a high rate of speed which caused him to lose control subsequently crashing into the boats and PWC’s.

The accused was charged with Mischief X 2, Take Auto Without Consent, Dangerous Driving and Fail To Stop At Scene Of Accident.

He was later released on a Promise To Appear.

On Dec. 14th, an officer was on general patrol in the Montreal St area.

As he drove by a residence, he observed a male in the kitchen window and recognized this male as having conditions not to be in that residence.

The officer attended the residence and arrested a 17 year old male.

As he was being searched, suspected marijuana and Methamphetamine was located.

The male was later charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance X 2, Breach of Recog X 2. He was kept in custody awaiting a bail hearing.

On Dec. 15 at approx. 01:30, while on general patrol an officer observed a vehicle driving Westbound on Hwy 17 at a low speed and in the wrong lane.

A snow plow had to stop in order to avoid a collision with the vehicle.

The vehicle then reversed and entered a private driveway.

The officer followed the vehicle and activated its emergency lights.

The officer approached the vehicle and spoke with the driver where a strong odor of alcohol was noticed coming from the driver’s breath.

The driver was arrested for Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle. He was eventually brought before a Qualified Breath Technician and provided two breath samples. The results of these breath samples were approx. 3 times the legal limit.

The 49 year old Sturgeon Falls resident was charged for Impaired and Over 80.

He was also issued a 90 day Driver’s License Suspension and his vehicle was impounded for a period of 7 days.

He was later released on a Promise To Appear.
