Rexall Foundation helps bring treatment closer to home

Today, Rexall Foundation announced a $20,000 donation to the North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC) Foundation, helping to ensure that babies, children and adolescents in North Bay and area are able to access quality health care, closer to home.

The donation will be divided to provide $10,000 towards funding for the central fetal monitoring system and $10,000 towards the implementation of a child and adolescent mental health program; two initiatives identified as urgent needs to serve North Bay and the surrounding communities.

The central fetal monitoring system monitors the heart rate of both mother and baby, providing a vital window into the womb and giving valuable medical information to the care team.

The ability for doctors and nurses to instantly evaluate a baby’s heart rate for distress during labour can assist in making critical decisions that ensure the well-being of both mother and baby. With ‘real-time’ assessment, nurses and physicians can monitor the condition of mother and child, as well as access all data from a smart phone, home or office.

Time sensitive decisions around care can be made while the physician is on their way to the Health Centre, resulting in quicker intervention and possibly even saving lives.

Child and adolescent specialized mental health beds are being transferred to North Bay Regional Health Centre from the Kirkwood campus in Sudbury.

The Rexall Foundation’s donation of $10,000 will help to create the therapeutic environment necessary to appropriately care for children and adolescents requiring longer admission for their treatment, closer to home.

Since 2003, the Rexall Foundation has been helping build strong and vibrant communities by giving back to the communities where stores are located.

The Foundation has made donations to numerous charities and programs in Canada, and is especially proud of the contributions that have been made to help some of Canada’s most courageous children.

Funds are carefully managed by the Rexall Foundation Board of Directors and directed to reputable and worthy causes throughout the country.
