This season’s first laboratory-confirmed case in our district of Influenza A, commonly known as the flu, has been reported to the Health Unit. Public Health Ontario reports that provincially, as of November 23, 2013, there are 71 cases of Influenza A and 11 cases of Influenza B.

The confirmed case of Influenza A in our district is not included in these numbers.

Immunization remains the most effective protection against the flu. Free flu shot clinics continue throughout the district. For more information, call the Health Unit at 705-474-1400 or 1-800-563-2808, or learn more at myhealthunit.ca.

Quote

“The flu spreads easily and it’s circulating in our community. It may cause a serious viral illness that affects your breathing and we encourage everyone to get a flu shot to protect yourself and your family! The flu shot is free and it’s available at Health Unit clinics throughout our district. You can also get the flu shot through area physicians and some pharmacies.”
