Victim's name released in fatal MVC on Hwy 17 east of Centennial Crescent

OPP advise that has 11:30 PM highway is open in both directions

On December 1, 2013 at approximately 4:26 pm, members of the North Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision on Highway # 17 East Ferris Township.

Initial investigation has revealed that a head on collision occurred as a result of a Honda Civic that was westbound and entered into the eastbound lane and consequently colliding with an eastbound Pontiac G6.

East Ferris Fire Department responded to the scene and assisted with extrication and traffic control.

The drivers of both vehicles were transported to hospital by ambulance where David Houston, age 64 of North Bay, (the driver of the Pontiac) was pronounced deceased.  The driver of the Honda was airlifted to Toronto with life threatening injuries.

Members of the Technical Traffic Collision Investigations (TTCI) unit as well as the Forensic Identification Unit are at the scene to assist in the investigation. 

The highway is closed to one lane at this time.
