Temiskaming OPP seek public's help following an attempted child abduction

COBALT - Members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to an attempt child abduction on November 28th, 2013 at approximately 3:40 p.m. 

A 13-year-old boy was walking home from school in Cobalt when he was approached by a man near the train station.  

The stranger tried to lure the youth into his vehicle by telling him that his parents had asked him to pick him up at school and return him home. 

Even though the youth declined, the suspect persisted. 

The youth returned home safe to find out that his parents had never made the request for him to be picked up. 

The suspect is described as:

·         White male

·         Approximately age 40

·         Dark beard

·         Thin/muscular build

The suspect vehicle is described as:

·         Burgundy/Purple Dodge Ram 4x4

·         4-doors

·         Grey strip across the doors

·         Black winter rims

·         Dark tint on back window

The OPP reminds all members of the public to be aware of their personal safety, and that of children, at all times.

Please take time to discuss with your children in detail safety tips regarding the dangers of strangers. 

Do not leave your children unattended anywhere, for any length of time, when out in public.
