Man charged with impaired driving twice this month

MATTAWA - Members of the North Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to an erratic driving complaint on November 26, 2013 at approximately 2:42 p.m.

Police located the suspect vehicle on Highway 17, Papineau-Cameron Township. 

Upon checking the status of the driver, the 65-year-old male was arrested. 

Donald HAMEL of St. Pierre Les Becquets, Quebec was charged and held for a bail hearing for the following:

·         Impaired Driving by Drug as per section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code; and with

·         Driving Motor Vehicle with open container of liquor as per section 32(1) of the Liquor Licence Act.

He was first charged by North Bay OPP officer with “impaired by drugs” on November 4, 2013 as a result of numerous traffic complaints about an erratic driver travelling eastbound from Sturgeon Falls on Highway 17. 

At which time, he was provided a court date of November 26, 2013.
