NORTH BAY, ON – The National Day of Remembrance for Road Crash Victims in Canada is Wednesday, November 20th, 2013.  This is a day set aside to remember people killed or seriously injured on Canadian roads, often in avoidable collisions, and those left to deal with the sudden and unexpected loss of those they love.

Each day, six people die on Canadian roads

Since January 1, 2013, there have been 150,254 injuries and 1,961 deaths nationally of these numbers, 531 injuries and 35 deaths were from North East Region.  Inspector Mark Andrews, Traffic & Marine Unit Commander, reminds all motorists that “Safer driving habits can reduce these numbers; avoiding the 4 high-risk driving behaviors.”  Avoiding alcohol, drugs, speeding, distracted driving behaviors, fatigue and always use your seatbelt.  Every action we take to use the roads responsibly will help reduce the risk of collisions, prevent suffering and save lives.

Road safety starts with everyone who uses the road – it is a shared responsibility.  This year’s theme “Victims and their families and friends are not the only ones impacted by road crashes.  Entire communities suffer the loss.”

To honour the memory of those lost on our roads; we invite you to read about the lives of six Canadians who have died in collisions.  Collectively their stories represent a snapshot of the loss to our country every day.  For their stories and more information, please visit National Day of Remembrance for Road Crash Victims website.
