Traffic stop leads to drug charges

On November 19, 2013 at approximately 10:42 a.m., a member of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Mattawa Detachment conducted a traffic stop on Highway 17 in Papineau-Cameron Township.

After the initial contact, the driver attempted to flee from police before pulling over again.  As a result of this traffic stop, police seized 6.5 lbs. of suspected marijuana.  The driver, Marc PARISIEN, 33, of Kapuskasing, Ontario, is being held for a bail hearing as a result of the following charges:

•Trafficking Schedule II Substance- Cannabis Marihuana under 3 kg as per section 5 (1) under the Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA);

•Possession for the Purpose Schedule II Under 3 kg as per section 5(2) CDSA;Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle as per section 249 (1) of the Criminal Code (CC);

·         Flight while Pursued by Peace Officer as per section 249.1(1) CC;

·         Resist Peace Officer as per section 129(a) CC; and with

·         Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 - in Canada as per section 354(1) (a) CC.
