Local arts organizations are receiving $57,000 in funding through the Ontario Arts Council, Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli announced today.

Operating grants include:

• $29,000 for Aanmitaagzi through the Community & Multidisciplinary Arts Organizations program toward its 2013-14 operations. Aanmitaagzi is a multi-disciplinary, artist-run Aboriginal arts organization.

Project grants include:

• $15,000 for the White Water Gallery through the Multi and Integrated Arts program toward The Active Arts Festival, a community festival celebrating contemporary art through a series of community building events and projects.

• $7,000 for the Nipissing Region Curatorial Collective through the Visual Arts Projects program toward a colloquium on site-specific art practice, environmental history and the contemporary art festival to bring together artists, curators and cultural historians.

• $6,000 for The Consolidated Artist Group of 7's through the Northern Arts program toward an arts creation and research project focusing on the history and geography of the La Vase Portages, an important part of the Voyageurs route through Northeastern Ontario.

“Congratulations to the recipients and to all who work tirelessly to enhance our vibrant arts and cultural community here in Nipissing,” said Fedeli.

More than 250,000 Ontarians work in the culture sector, representing 4 per cent of the provincial workforce.
