During the week of November the West Nipissing Police Service logged 146 calls for service.

Among those were 28 police Assistance calls, 25 9-1-1 calls, 6 Thefts, 4 Alarms, 2 Frauds, 2 Drug Offences, 1 Impaired, 1 Break and Enter, 1 Mischief and 1 Domestic Dispute.

On Nov. 08th, a walk-in complaint was received from a male who had been a victim of a Fraud.

He reported that he had an item for sale on KIJIJ and he was contacted by an individual that was interested in buying it.

The potential buyer sent him two $2500 certified cheques which was way over the asking price.

The victim was then asked to send back the leftover money. He proceeded to deposit the cheques and sent the money via Western Union.

He was then contacted by the bank saying that the cheques were no good and that he was on the hook to repay to outstanding amount. The victim was asked to contact the Canadian Anti Fraud Centre (1-888-495-8501).

On Nov. 8th, a call was received at the WNPS reporting a Break and Enter and Theft from her property located on Lafreniere Rd.

The owner told police that the house has been vacant for a while now and the last time someone attended there was in August.

She showed up at the residence today which is when she noted someone had broken in.

She noticed several items missing, notably 3 firearms described as a Lee Enfield .303, a 12 gauge Remington pump action shotgun and a 20 gauge shotgun that was not operational.

Also missing was a fur coat and an antique barber tool set.

Police are still investigating but no suspects have been identified as of yet.

On November 9th, a 27 year old female was arrested on an outstanding Warrant in relation to a domestic incident which had occurred last week.

This incident happened on Nov. 05, where she attended her ex-boyfriend’s residence located on

Nipissing St. An argument started escalating to the point that she allegedly broke the basement window and left the area prior to police arrival. She was held in custody awaiting a Bail hearing.

On November 10th, the WNPS received a complaint regarding a suspected Impaired driver heading East on Hwy 17 from the Verner area.

An officer on general patrol observed this vehicle on John St and performed a traffic stop on Ethel St. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer noticed an odor of alcohol emanating from the driver’s breath.

He also noticed the driver had blood shot eyes and was speaking with a slurred speech.

The driver proceeded to provide a breath sample in the Roadside Screening device resulting in a “FAIL”.

The male driver was then arrested and brought back to the WNPS headquarters and was subsequently turned over to a Qualified Breath Tech.

Two breath samples were collected resulting in 2 ½ times over the legal limit.

The driver was charged with Impaired and over 80.

He was also issued a 90 automatic driver’s license suspension and his vehicle was impounded for a period of 7 days.

He was later released on a promise To Appear.

On November 12th, a Laplage Rd resident called the WNPS to report that his ATV had been stolen sometime over the weekend.

An officer attended and was told that the ATV was parked beside the attached garage and did not have the keys in the ignition.

The ATV is described as a 2009 Articat 700 Green in color.

There are no suspects at this time but police are still investigating.
