École secondaire catholique Algonquin in North Bay has joined the list of Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord schools recognized by Ontario’s Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) by earning the prestigious Dr. Bette M. Stephenson Recognition of Achievement for 2013.

This award highlights the shared leadership, data-driven strategies and whole school approach implemented by the school to ensure the success of each of its students.

The success rate for students of École secondaire catholique Algonquin who were admissible to the EQAO literacy test for the first time in 2013 was 92%.

According to Monique Ménard, Director of Education of the Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord school board, “The Dr. Bette M. Stephenson Recognition of Achievement reflects the efforts of the entire École secondaire catholique Algonquin staff and it is well deserved. All of Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord’s schools understand the importance of developing strong literacy skills in both official languages and student achievement levels are assessed according to the highest standards in both English and French. All of our schools closely monitor the progress of each student. Our educational teams meet regularly to examine data, review relevant research and plan each student’s path to success.”

Since the establishment of provincial testing in Ontario, the Education Quality and Accountability Office and the Literacy and Numeracy Secretariat have commended five Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord schools for their winning strategies:

  •  École St-Thomas d’Aquin, Astorville;
  •  École St-Raymond, North Bay;
  •  École Ste-Marguerite d’Youville, Verner;
  •  École secondaire catholique Franco-Cité, Sturgeon Falls;
  •  École élémentaire catholique Saint-Joseph, Sturgeon Falls.
