Marking Women Abuse Prevention Month the Domestic Violence Community Coordinating Committee of Nipissing (DVCCC) is marking the month by hosting a 2 day symposium on domestic violence.

The symposium, which is funded by the Ministry of the Attorney General, was open to area professionals from the justice sectors, social service providers, and organizations who routinely encounter domestic violence.

Kathleen Jodouin, Chair of the DVCCC, says the group wants the discussion about violence to happen and for men to understand they are all part of the solution to end violence against women.

Thursday’s key note speaker Ron Couchman, Community Engagement Manager at the White Ribbon Campaign, agrees with Jodouin and focused his workshop on how professionals can engage men in the movement to end abuse.

Friday’s keynote speaker Tracey Marshal, President of Threat Management Matters Inc., will be training the group on the B-Safer Risk Assessment Tool.

B-Safer (Brief Spousal Assault Form for the Evaluation of Risk) is a guide for the assessment and management of risk for spousal assault. In 91% of domestic homicides women are the victims (Ontario Women’s Directorate).
