During the week of October 25-31, the West Nipissing Police Service logged 184 calls for service. Among those were 31 9-1-1 calls, 29 Police Assistance calls, 4 Thefts, 4 Break and Enter calls, 2 Harassment calls, 1 Domestic Dispute and 1 Mischief.


Three 17 year old youths are now in custody in connection with the rash of break ins in the Crystal Falls area. Information was received from a person who had been approached in order to buy a firearm and a generator. From there, three youths were identified as possible suspects and a search warrant was obtained to search one of the youth’s residences. On Oct. 25, officers executed the search warrant and most of the stolen items were recovered. All three youths now faces numerous charges including Break and Enter X 4, Possession of Firearm, Possession Of Property Obtained By Crime, Possession of Weapons for Trafficking and Possession of a Scheduled Substance. All three were kept in custody awaiting a bail hearing.


On Oct. 28, a call was received from a Nipissing St resident saying that she could hear a couple arguing outside. Officers attended and spoke with the couple and was told that it was only a verbal argument and things had calmed down. Both parties were queried and the female was found to have an outstanding warrant for her arrest out of North Bay. She was taken into custody and later transported back to North Bay.


On Oct. 29, police were dispatched to the Vaillancourt Rd area in order to investigate a Theft. Officers were advised that thieves cut through a chain link fence which surrounded the radio tower. Once inside, the culprit(s) cut and stole copper ground wires and also cut a radio coax cable. There are no suspects at this time but similar incidents have been occurring in other neighboring jurisdictions.

On Oct. 29, a 24 year old male was charged for one count of Mischief Under $5000 after a report was received at the WNPS. The complainant stated that when she was stopped on Salter St, the accused male would have thrown a rock striking the vehicle causing the rear window to break. The accused was later released on a Promise to Appear and Undertaking.


On Oct. 29, at approx. 20:25, a WNPS officer initiated a traffic stop on King St.. The vehicle plate was queried and was found to be unattached. The female driver said that she recently bought the vehicle and wanted to get the vehicle certified. When the officer further questioned the driver, she admitted that the plates were not supposed to be on the vehicle and told the officer that she didn’t have any insurance. A 33 year old Cache Bay resident was then charged with Use Plate – Not Authorized and Drive – No Insurance which holds, if convicted, a minimum fine of $5000.
