Several schools in the Near North District School Board have been affected by a loss of power.

Almaguin Highlands Secondary School, McDougall Public School and Whitestone Lake Public School have been closed for today, Friday, November 1, 2013.

Other schools affected by a power loss will remain open today. This includes Evergreen Heights, Land of Lakes, M.A. Wittick, Magnetawan Central, South River and Sundridge Centennial schools. At this point, it is not known how long it will take to restore power. Buses transporting students will depart the school at the end of the day, as per usual.

There are other schools in the region that may experience power issues, which the Board will monitor throughout the day. Should power loss occur, these schools will also remain open and buses will depart at the end of the day.

At Britt Public School, buses were cancelled for today, however the school remains open.

An update will be conveyed through the media and on the Near North District School Board website at www.nearnorthschools.ca . Parents and caregivers will be kept up-to-date by phone, and are urged to consult their media outlets and the Board’s website for information.

The Near North District School Board would like to thank the power authority workers and Board staff who are working diligently to deal with this concern.
