Jay Aspin, Member of Parliament for Nipissing–Timiskaming, announced today on behalf of the Honourable Greg Rickford, Minister of State for Science and Technology, and FedNor an investment by the Canadian Government to create jobs and support the development and growth of Northern Ontario’s technology and innovation sectors.

“We are investing in high-quality jobs for Nipissing-Timiskaming,” said MP Aspin. “The funding announced today will help attract private sector investment to the region and create opportunities for new advancements in the growing field of online and mobile software.”

A fully repayable FedNor contribution of $500,000 will enable Funding Matters Inc., in partnership with Canadore College, to position Northern Ontario as a leader in the development of software for the charitable financing industry and in related online and mobile education.

Specifically, the investment will be used to hire a local project team to enhance the organization’s GIFTABULATOR app, develop new software and tools, as well as client support mechanisms. As a result of this initiative, Funding Matters Inc. will have the ability to create 10 new technology-related jobs and expand its North Bay operations, leading to the establishment of a research, development, and marketing office in the community.

“We are very excited to partner with FedNor and the Government of Canada to expand our North Bay operations and enhance our product offerings,” said William Petruck, President of Funding Matters Inc. “Today’s announcement will help us grow our business, create jobs, expand into new markets and continue to deliver innovative services to our clients.”

"Our Government remains focused on providing the right environment for economic growth, through effective cooperation across all sectors, to keep Canadians working and to ensure the long-term prosperity of all our communities," said Minister Rickford.

The funding announced is provided through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program, which supports projects that strengthen community economic development, enhance business development and growth, and facilitate innovation throughout the region.
