The North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are advising there will be a slow down on Highway #17 by Jocko Point Road in Beaucage Twp., west of the City of North Bay. The slow down is a result of support for the members of the First Nation Community and supporters for the anti-fracking protest in New Brunswick. The event is scheduled at that location on Saturday October 19, 2013 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The OPP recognizes the Charter rights of everyone to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly. The overall OPP objective is to work with all parties to ensure public and officer safety and to maintain orderly conduct and peace. The OPP has no role to play in resolution of the underlying issues.

Protest activities may interrupt the normal flow of traffic. The OPP is working with those involved to minimize the impact on the traveling public and to ensure order and public safety. Our objective in policing any road closures/blockades is to work to restore the orderly flow of traffic in the safest manner possible.

The OPP thanks everyone for their patience in dealing with traffic disruptions.
