With a grant from the RBC Blue Water Fund the team at Greening Nipissing has partnered with Green Communities Canada to ‘Depave Paradise’.

This week they started with the parking lot across from North Bay City Hall on McIntyre Street East by replacing asphalt between the sidewalk and guardrails with planters filled Linden trees and salt-tolerant plants.

Greening Nipissing intern Ian Wassink says ‘Depave Paradise’ is a growing movement in North America.

The North Bay project not only served as an opportunity to spruce up the city but also as a training session for other member organizations from Calgary, Kingston, Peterborough, Mississauga, and Ottawa.

“This Greening Nipissing Depave Paradise project was a fabulous event for North Bay,” said Vijanti Ramlogan Murphy, Executive Director of Greening Nipissing.

“Over two days, Greening Nipissing was able to demonstrate that a real difference can be made in our community through a project with immediate and tangible results.”

To date over 5,000 square feet has been depaved at sites in Toronto, Kingston, Hamilton and Collingwood.
