Innovation Centre for Advanced Manufacturing (iCAMP) now openFriday, September 20, 2013 by: Kate AdamsWith great fanfare Canadore College unveiled their Innovation Centre for Advanced Manufacturing (iCAMP) facility at the Commerce Court campus Friday morning.
iCAMP is a unique collaboration between the college, business and manufacturing sectors that offers development and expansion by allowing companies to test drive new designs, prototype and improve products for the marketplace with state of the art technology.
Nipissing-Timiskaming MP Jay Aspin said he is pleased that FedNor was able to contribute funds to the project.
“I am witnessing first-hand the positive economic results this centre will deliver for the people, businesses and communities of this region. This Centre is the first of its kind in North America and will be a real game changer for Northern Ontario.”
“The facility brings innovation, applied learning, leadership and partnership to life,” said Canadore President George Burton.
“Working with industry and government on projects like ICAMP will bring our economy to new heights. Together we are establishing new realms of possibility, narrowing the skills gap and creating sustainable jobs.”
Mayor Al McDonald echoed the sentiments noting that iCAMP is about everyone working together for the betterment of the city.
“ICAMP is about partnerships, it is thinking outside the universe and achieving more,” he says.
“The City of North Bay is proud to host this amazing facility Canadore has certainly made the city’s job easier in terms of economic development. Our business case just got a lot more exciting and compelling when we try to attract new industry to our city.”
“There is no better time to open a facility like this then right now,” adds Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli.
“We really do stand at a critical point of the future of Northern Ontario and indeed Ontario as whole.”
Following the speeches guests took part in tours of the facility where they witnessed live demonstrations of the Centre’s 3D simulation technology as well as various processes and robotic platforms.
