The folks at Habitat are having a 'fun raiser'Tuesday, September 10, 2013 by: Kate AdamsHabitat for Humanity North Bay & Blue Sky Region
On September 28th, Habitat for Humanity North Bay & Blue Sky Region is holding its first-ever Run-Walk-Ride "Fun Raiser".
The event consists of a family-oriented 10km run OR 5 km walk OR 21 km bike ride, starting and ending at the Rotary Picnic Shelter in North Bay's waterfront park.
"We're trying something new." said Ellen Faulkner, chair of Habitat's Run-Walk-Ride Committee.
"I was trying to think of a fund raiser where all the participants have to do is show up and do something they like, and maybe donate if they can, and if enough people do that then Habitat ends up with a good amount to put towards our next build. A fun-run seems like a great fit - the participants get to have a nice morning exploring the city in a healthy, active way, Habitat reaches out to
new people, businesses, and community groups that might be able to volunteer time or materials to a house being built,
and the funds raised go right into a new home for a partner family. Everyone shares in the work, and another community family starts living a better life. It's perfect!"
Dedicated North Bay residents - including three current family partners that occupy Habitat-built homes - have already signed up and begun collecting pledges, and local organizations like the new Target store, the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit and Calvin Presbyterian Church have groups that have indicated they may be entering a team for the event.
Any individual or team that registers prior to September 13th will receive a T-shirt and hat with their registration, and all pledge forms must be into Habitat by September 20th. Following the run / walk / ride, there will be a barbeque at the Rotary picnic shelter, and prizes will be awarded to teams and individuals that raised the most funds as part of their pledge efforts.
There is a minimum $15 in pledges required, and any individual raising more than $100 will have their
name entered into a grand prize draw.
