Many folks in North Bay might recognize Shirantha Beddage as a former Kiwanis Music Festival participant or that nice young man with talent who played with the Chippewa High School Band, but with two albums under his belt that nice kid with talent is turning heads in the world of jazz these days.

Beddage, a baritone saxophonist and post-secondary music teacher at Humber in Toronto, is turning heads of the world’s top music critics as he garnered a nomination from the Juno awards and this year at the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal (Montreal Jazz Fest) he walked away with the Galaxie Rising Star award.

BayToday caught up with Beddage during a recent visit home to talk about where he has been, what is happening now, and what is next for the rising jazz star.
