Monday's regular meeting of North Bay City Council was a long but well attended one.

Council had numerous presentations before them, all regarding the development of the former Scollard Hospital site, located within the Pinewood area of the city.

Many citizens came forward to let council know of their concerns with the developer's plans to intensify the number of structures and population within the small packet of land.

However, despite their well-researched input, in the end, council went with the project developer and voted 6-4 in favor of retaining the current yet unpopular higher density development.

Also, during the council meeting, Councillor Mike Anthony came forward to present the groundwork for municipal by-laws to assist The Humane Society deal with exotic pets in the city.

Currently there are no by-laws regarding the keeping of pets that most would consider to be foreign to the city.

In other council news, The North Bay Baseball Association and the City have decided to partner up in grassing Veteran's Field to make the diamond ready for hardball, with the current inventory of Omischl Fields being designated mostly for Softball.

Council also came to terms with this past year's difficult winter conditions, saying the hard weather increased road salt and sand costs, pushing their operating budget into the red and requiring adjustments to the budget and drawing into reserve funds.
