New FedNor Minister visits the Bay

Greg Rickford came bearing gifts from the Harper Government Friday during his first visit to North Bay as FedNor Minister. Rickford announced investments for the innovation, youth employment and business development for the Nipissing–Timiskaming region.


“Our Government is proud to support initiatives that create jobs and embrace the use of technology and innovation to build a strong, sustainable economy for the people, businesses and communities of Northern Ontario,” said Minister Rickford.

“The funding announced today will support the continued growth of North Bay’s manufacturing industry and help to stem the flow of youth out-migration in the region, while providing local businesses with the resources and talent they need to succeed.”

Premier Mining Products Inc., Joe Guido’s new start-up mining company, is in receipt of a repayable FedNor loan of $480,000 these monies will assist them to establish a world-class manufacturing facility in the city.

“We are very excited to partner with the Government of Canada to establish a technologically advanced and competitive mining products manufacturing business in Northern Ontario,” said Joe Guido, Owner of Premier Mining Products Inc.

“By introducing new, unique and innovative processing techniques, Premier Mining Products Inc. will be well positioned to capitalize on new and emerging opportunities in the global marketplace, which will help strengthen the local economy and create jobs.”

As well the Harper Government is investing $211,449 to create eight intern placements in the region that will help address skilled-labour shortages and providing valuable work experience.

“Today’s announcement will not only strengthen North Bay’s manufacturing sector, it will also create good jobs for local youth and allow them to build their careers and raise their families here at home,” said Mayor Al McDonald, City of North Bay.

"Our Government remains focused on providing the right environment for economic growth, through effective cooperation across all sectors, to keep Canadians working and to ensure the long-term prosperity of all our communities," concluded Minister Rickford.
