Former Nipissing MPP and cabinet minister Monique Smith is packing her bags and heading South to Canadian embassy in Washington as Premier Kathleen Wynne has appointed her Ontario’s representative in the USA earlier this week.
Former Nipissing MPP and cabinet minister Monique Smith is packing her bags and heading South to Canadian embassy in Washington as Premier Kathleen Wynne has appointed her Ontario’s representative in the USA earlier this week.

Smith was head of Wynne’s transition team following the her bid for Liberal Leader and under former Premier Dalton McGuinty Smith was Government House Leader and held a number of portfolios including Intergovernmental Affairs, Tourism, and Revenue.

As the Province’s representative Smith will responsible for boosting ties and fostering further trade opportunities.

“A strong voice in Washington is key to Ontario’s future growth and I am thrilled that Monique has accepted this position,” Premier Wynne says in a news release.

“Her diverse experience serving the people of this province has equipped her with a unique understanding of what Ontario needs to prosper for generations to come. I am confident that her efforts in Washington will strengthen our relationship with our American partners to help us grow the economy and create more jobs here in Ontario.”
