Standoff in Warren comes to end: SIU invokes mandate following injury

WARREN – On Thursday, August 8 at approximately 6:45 pm, officers with the Warren Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment responded to a report of a domestic incident.

The incident escalated and the male barricaded himself at his residence. OPP members with the Emergency Response Team, Tactical Response Unit, Canine, Negotiators and Crime Investigation Unit assisted.

The male surrendered to police early this morning and was subsequently arrested without incident.

Male subject, 39, of Warren is being held for a bail hearing for the following charges:

· Assault with a Weapon, as per s.267(a) of the Criminal Code (CC);

· Mischief under $5,000, as per s. 430(4) of the CC;

· Utter Threat to Damage Property, as per s.264.1(1)(b) of the CC;

· Utter Threat to Cause Death or Bodily Harm, as per s.264.1 (1) (a) of the CC x 3.

He was assessed by medical staff and an injury was discovered. As a result of this incident, the OPP notified the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) who has invoked its mandate. Further inquiries should be directed to SIU Communications at (416) 622-2342.
