Construction for McKeown Commons officially gets underwayTuesday, August 06, 2013 by: Kate AdamsNorth Bay Mayor Al McDonald and the Villarboit Development Corporation President Guery Goyo and other city officials officially broke ground for McKeown Commons a new 134,000 square foot commercial development 800 McKeown Avenue today.
As we told you last week the development, according to Online descriptions of the new project will include retailors Michaels, Sportchek and Winners, A&W, St Louis Wings and Ribs, Petsmart, Dollar Tree and Sally Beauty Supply.
Goyo says he has wanted to get into the North Bay market for the last four years, especially the McKeown Avenue area and jumped at the opportunity to purchase the property next to Canadian Tire.
“We are excited to be here and to be part of the community,” he states.
Villarboit is a leader in the mid-sized market commercial retail sector, having completed past projects all over Ontario including Belleville`s Centre Point Mall, Toronto’s Mississauga Centre and Scarborough`s Future Shop. The corporation’s current projects include retail and office developments in Cornwall, Markham, Niagara Falls, Brantford, Caledon and Pickering.
Mayor Al McDonald says once this development is completed there will only be 2 acres of vacant commercial land left on McKeown Avenue so the city will then turn their attention to the Pinewood Park area for further development.
He notes that the close proximity to both major highways coupled with the new hospital, Education Centre mining offices combined with a large residential area McKeown Avenue has become attractive for development
“The confidence displayed by the development community in the City of North Bay will continue to drive growth and create jobs well into the future,” states McDonald.
