Midway rides, petting zoos, the Country Open and dozens of other displays were real crowd pleasers for folks who took in the Summer in the Park event over the weekend.

Weather conditions had event organizers concerned that the whole weekend would be a wash out especially when they had to cancel Friday night's headline act due to a storm.

Kimberley Lyon, a member of the Summer in the Park Committee explained how the weather affected the festival.

"It seems to be good. We've had some trouble with the weather which, you know, delayed a few things and caused a few problems as everyone is aware of," Lyon said. "It hasn't been overwhelmingly hot like it has been some years, so people are able to wander around a little bit more."

The unseasonably cool conditions on Sunday made it easier for people to stay outside and walk around freely.

"There's a lot of activity down here. Especially in Lee Park; it's all free," she notes.

The fairgrounds were full of excitement and action and people seemed to be enjoying themselves.

"It's pretty busy and full. There are lots of lights going, lots of people, music. There's a lot of action," said fair goer Joshua Hicthon.

"I'm really enjoying the fair. I've been walking around and looking at the tents," said Ashley Amo, who attended Summer in the Park with her mother.

"I didn't come last year and I think this is an improvement for the festival."

The weather held out and Sunday was a great day for everyone who attended. Officials were also happy to report that there they only had a few minor injuries to deal with and everything ran smoothly.

As another festival weekend comes to an end it is safe to say that the folks we talked to consider Summer in the Park a success and there is no doubt the volunteers are more than happy they were involved.
