The strike deadline of 12:01 a.m., August 1, came and went without Members of Local 4616-2 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) and the Township of Bonfield reaching a contract agreement so the municipal workers are officially on strike.

CUPE National Representative Steve Boyle said On Wednesday that after the township moved to impose its own terms and conditions of employment and threatened to lock out employees cancelling future bargaining dates, members were left with little choice but to go on strike to defend public services and working conditions in the Township of Bonfield.
