Council approves rezoning application for new daycare

City Council met for its regular meeting on Monday evening to discuss the intricacies of city planning principles and policies. Council started the session out with a unanimous vote in favour for expanding children’s daycare in the city.

Council started the session out with a unanimous vote in favour for expanding children’s daycare in the city.

They approved a commercial rezoning application, filed by residents who want to convert the Greenwood Baptist Church location into a daycare despite friction caused by those who believe the new facility would be unwelcome to the area.

Council was also happy to announce it is receiving of the provincial gas tax, with a portion of it divvied out to the yearly operating budget and the rest, replacing buses in the city’s transport fleet.

As well, the implantation of a bill was brought forward to council, asking for its support for a new strategy for Alzheimer’s.

The bill is calling on all levels of government to launch a national Alzheimer’s plan that could help loved ones and their families in the fight against the debilitating disease.
Finally, council saw motions regarding the everyday operations of the city pass, from blue box programs to culvert replacement within the city.
