The flood advisory issued for the North Bay-Mattawa watershed has been cancelled.

The weather forecast over the next few days is calling for clear skies which will result in a decrease in flows and water levels on area watercourses.

The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority's will continue to monitor local conditions and issue updates as required.

The Watershed Conditions Statement (below) that was issued earlier this morning has been upgraded to a Flood Advisory.

The system that has recently passed through the North Bay-Mattawa area has caused some watercourses to rise quickly. Of particular concern in North Bay is Chippewa Creek but watercourses throughout the watershed will also be rising.

Another system is expected to pass through the area early this afternoon. Keep a close watch on local conditions, and updated forecasts and warnings from Environment Canada.

This is not a Flood Watch or Flood Warning, but a Statement providing information on the forecasted weather outlook over the next few days.

The North Bay-Mattawa watershed has been experiencing intense precipitation events over the past few days. Today the precipitation will continue, with the risk of severe thunderstorms bringing higher amounts to some areas. The Ministry of Natural Resources is forecasting between 16mm to 41mm of precipitation before the day is through. Conditions are expected to improve by Saturday, with little precipitation expected over the weekend.

Issues:

Although many areas are dry and can handle significant amounts of precipitation, the intensity of these systems may cause problems across the North Bay-Mattawa watershed. Some areas could see significant precipitation amounts in a short period of time. Heavy downpours could cause flooding and/or drainage issues in low-lying areas. As we have had rain in the past 24 hours, streamflows are likely to increase.

Staff at the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority will continue to monitor weather and watershed conditions and provide updates if conditions change.
