Dr. Jim Chirico, Medical Officer of Health, has issued a boil water advisory effective immediately for all residents of South River who draw their water from the municipal water system.

This order was issued due to a power outage that interrupted the filtration process at the South River Water Treatment Plant.

Water used for consumption or cooking should be brought to a rolling boil and allowed to boil for one full minute before use. Otherwise, the water is safe for bathing.
Residents of South River who take their water from the municipal system should not:

 drink the water

 use it for cooking

 brush teeth

 or wash foods, such as fruit and vegetables, which will be consumed without cooking.

The Health Unit staff will continue to monitor this situation and provide updated information as it becomes available.
