On July 9th at approximately 6:55pm, the North Bay Police Service received a complaint of a female operating an e-bike while intoxicated with a male passenger on the rear of the e-bike, leaving the area of a local beach.

Officers attended the area and both parties were located after parking the e-bike in a driveway and fleeing into a nearby wooded area.

Investigation revealed that both had consumed alcohol and were impaired and had taken turns operating the e-bike prior to police arrival.

Both were arrested for Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and later charged with Drive Over 80mgs after providing breath samples at police headquarters with results being in excess of three times the legal limit.

Both were released on a Promise to Appear with a court date of July 23rd, 2013.

Police wish to remind the public that e-bikes are classified as being a motor vehicle under the Highway Traffic Act and Criminal Code of Canada.
