Having left Tofino, BC, on June 3rd, Cayse Ruiter has biked over 4,550 km of his 8000+ km journey across Canada to raise awareness for organ and tissue donation. His campaign, Outlive Yourself, has been gaining momentum as he continues to travel east and he continues to build awareness through media outerach.

Ruiter was inspired when his friend Matthew Antolin passed away at age 27 while waiting for a heart transplant, he felt an overwhelming desire to do something to honour Matt’s memory and make a difference.

Each year over 1,600 Canadians are added to organ wait lists. While ninety per cent of Canadians support organ and tissue donation, less than 25 per cent have registered to donate their organs. Canada has one of the lowest rates of organ donation in the industrialized world. Each donor can save eight lives with organs and enhance the lives of 75 others with tissue.

Ruiter encourages people to sign up as an organ and tissue donor at beadonor.ca, then add a note to Outlive Yourself’s Facebook page sharing their organ donor status”
