Reconstruction of Memorial Park Drive in Chisholm complete

Chisholm - Jay Aspin, Member of Parliament for Nipissing-Timiskaming marked today the completion of the reconstruction of Memorial Park Drive. The infrastructure project was a joint initiative between the Municipality, the Province, and the Federal Government. The federal contribution, funded through the Building Canada Fund-Communities Component, was $228,900.

“The changes to Memorial Park Drive are significant to the community,” said MP Aspin. “As one of the main travel roads, it was important to increase the quality of the road – particularly the high-costs of maintenance. With the new hard resurfacing not only will motorists find it more comfortable to travel on, but the municipality will also save much time and resources on easier maintenance.”


Prior to the reconstruction, not all of Memorial Park Drive was hard-surfaced. This led to drainage issues as well as high and more frequent maintenance costs. The redone road will not only be easier and more cost-effective to service, but also have sight-line improvements.

“Since the global financial crisis, our Government has remained focused on job-creating infrastructure projects,” said MP Aspin. “The Building Canada Fund is particularly accountable and respectful of tax-payers’ dollars by often only funding up to a maximum of one-third of projects cost and only once they have secured the remaining funding.”


The Building Canada Fund was established in 2007 under the Building Canada Plan to fund projects from 2007 to 2014. The Fund targets national, regional, and important local infrastructure priorities designed to deliver results in three areas of importance: a stronger economy; a cleaner environment; and stronger and more prosperous communities.
