ALMAGUIN HIGHLANDS - The Canada Day long weekend is traditionally one of the busiest long weekends of the year. Once again the Almaguin Highlands OPP officers were busy patrolling local roads, waterways and towns looking for aggressive behaviour.

This year between Friday June 28, 2013 and Monday July 1, 2013 police responded to 77 occurrences in the Almaguin Highlands area and issued a total of 95 Provincial Offences Act charges which included 77 speeding, 2 Liquor Licence Act charges, 5 charges relating to Off Road Vehicles, 1 Canada Shipping Act offence and 10 other assorted Highway Traffic Act charges.

Officers also conducted R.I.D.E programs throughout the area, checking a total of 180 vehicles. Police did however arrest 4 drivers for impaired driving that were not related to the R.I.D.E program between Thursday June 27, 2013 and Monday July 1, 2013.
