St. Victor students and staff gathered as shovels broke ground during the official ground-breaking ceremony of the new St. Victor School on June 24, 2013.

Larocque Elder Architects, Architectes Inc., project consultants, were on-site to present and explain the new school plans to students, staff and guests, and introduced Kenalex Construction as the general contractor for the project.

The new school will have the capacity to accommodate 127 pupils. The school will be comprised of one kindergarten classroom, four regular classrooms, an administration area, a full size gymnasium and a separate daycare. All of the classrooms have been positioned in a courtyard configuration on the north facing side of the building away from the highway and parking area in order to create a safe and calm learning environment. A geothermal ground source heat pump will take advantage of the moderate temperatures in the ground in order to provide heating and cooling for the entire school throughout the year.

The grade 1/2 class opened and closed the ceremony (pictured), while Father Tim Moyle from St. Anne’s Parish led the gathering in prayer and blessed the grounds.
